Mythbusting

If there is one thing you can rely on in this world, it is that people with little knowledge will very loudly 'reckon' things. The less some people know, the stronger their opinions are on the subject. Homophobes, biphobes, transphobes, racists, ableists, sexists, etc, etc all have that trait. Worse than that, they will find an outrageous misrepresented fact or outright lie and leap upon it to justify their anger, especially if they get to add, "...but what about the children? Won't somebody please think of the children?!"

Sex and gender are the same thing.  Boys are boys, girls are girls.  That's just common sense.

Gender is about expression.  It is about being you - how you dress, how you act, how you feel.  Gender is a construct - it develops and is determined by lots of factors and not just what a nurse saw when you were born. Gender is not binary, even though many people identify as a binary gender (man or woman).  Biological sex isn't even binary.  Around 1 in 100 people are intersex and not everyone's 'outsides' match their 'insides'.  There are a number of studies that show varied 'sex' development of organs within the same body.  Life's a rainbow - get over it!

Teaching about LGBT+ existence and history makes children LGBT+

Nobody can make you gay, lesbian, bi, trans, are, ace, etc, etc.  You just are.  The fact that most people question or discover their sexuality and gender before they are 21 is purely coincidental as that's also the age they are at school.  What helps them through this often difficult time?  Validation and the usualisation of LGBT+ existence.  Making young people think that being LGBT+ is a choice and/or is wrong only leads to poor mental health or worse. 

There are even litter trays in classrooms so that pupils who identify as cats can use them.

For a start, this never happened.  Around 2021, some 'prank' videos went viral suggesting that this was commonplace in US elementary schools.  The media leapt on it and began attacking teachers in the UK who stopped the bullying of teenagers who were being picked on for being 'furries'.  This then escalated into drawing parallels with trans experiences and became anti-trans hate.  

There is no such thing as a singular 'they'.  'They' means more than one person.  I refuse to use inaccurate language.

"The person in the queue in front of me at the shop yesterday was struggling with their shopping so I asked them if they needed a hand.  They were really grateful."

Exposure to LGBT+ people in childhood just turns children gay.

So much to unpack here...

Trans women want access to women-only toilets so that they can assault cis women.

Really?  A man is going to go through all that just to get into the women's bathroom?  If a man seeks to assault a woman, he doesn't need to transition to do that.  Also, do cis women really want trans men to be using their bathroom?  There are just as many trans men than trans women, after all.  Where do Non-binary people go?
